Struggling to get the code out into the wild!
- Ollie Rattue - 2009-09-18The release didn't quite go as planned (late night hacking!). The downloable .zip unhelpfully weighed in at 0bytes. I used the bzr export command as a handy way to zip out a release from the most recent revision. But this didn't work properly and so wasn't quite so handy. I have been playing around this morning. Everything is now fixed and it seems in the process I unearthed a bug in Bazaar the version control system. One Open Source project helping another. Thanks for everyone that alerted me to the problem.
Open Source FormIgniter
- Ollie Rattue - 2009-09-17Finally I have cleared up some time to do some spring cleaning to the codebase and get it into a realeasable condition. The code is downloabable with the full CodeIgniter framework (v1.7.1) HERE.
There have been 1623 forms built so far which is great. Thanks go to Derek Allard for mention FormIgniter on the official CodeIgniter twitter page. It has helped spread the word and brought it a steady stream of helpful feedback. It has been a valuable learning experience listening to users comments on what they find works, what is unclear, and what could change. As a result I have added various UI tweaks, such as error highlighting, which have improved the FormIgniter 'experience'.
Clearer error messages, checkbox changes, thebuzz page
- Ollie Rattue - 2009-07-07FormIgniter hit the twitter network today, and I have been getting a stream of great feedback. A couple of people reported that it wasn't clear when an error had occured when filling out the form. I added a general message at the top and added some box highlighting. If your form is 20 fields long, then it works well to quickly highlight where the errors lie. I still would like to give the interface an overhaul at some point. I have changed the order of the checkbox label so the checkbox sits on the left, and added a checkbox id so you can tick the box by clicking the label aswell.
I also changed the checkbox order for the validation rules on the app itself. I could never work out why this looked wrong, but with the checkbox to the left of the label it "feels" right. Interface design is an odd thing. Being a very close cousin of graphic design there is a certain element of "feel" and instinct.
Finally I added "The Buzz" page to showcase some of the great feedback FormIgniter is getting.
Feedback tab, fixed width, tidyer CSS.
- Ollie Rattue - 2009-04-17I have had some great feedback from the CodeIgniter community forum (http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/111570/) which is really encouraging. 192 forms have been built using FormIgniter in 5 days which is great.
Site Amends:
- Added feedback left hand tab, which uses an AJAX email form. Thinking of tidying up the code and releasing as a CI helper. I think it is a really elegant way of adding some communication method to a project.
- The site is now a fixed width at 960px which has fixed some of the dodgy FormIgniter field box spacing issues.
- Added this news section
- Added FormIgniter to the CodeIgniter wiki - http://codeigniter.com/wiki/FormIgniter/
